How much does it cost to join?

E-mail Print PDF

A full breakdown of costs for this season are available in our Subscription and Match Fees within the Joining section. These costs are based upon players joining the club at or near the beginning of the season (which runs mid-August to April). Where players are joining at an advanced stage of the season, joining fees are calculated on a pro-rata basis.

It's part-way through the season - can I still join?

E-mail Print PDF

Training is finished for the 2009/10 season and will restart with fitness training in July 2010. Dates will be available later in the summer.

We welcome new players all season long. It's ideal to join early in the season (August/September) to ensure you get to play at the right standard, however you will still get games and plenty of training if you join us once the season is underway.

The season generally runs from mid-August (pre-season friendlies) to early April depending on what the great British weather decides to do!

Throughout the season we have training, matches and social events. Out of season, we do high-intensity fitness training and we also get involved in mixed-hockey sessions held at our club base - The Centre for Sport.

Hockey equipment is readily available to buy from around Newcastle city centre and contact us if you would like help finding the right equipment for you. In addition if you are new to hockey and would like to try it before buying all the necessary equipment then we do have sticks you can borrow.

The basic equipment required to train is:

  • Field hockey stick
  • Trainers suitable for Astroturf

The equipment needed to play in matches is:

  • Black hockey skirt or skorts
  • Black hockey socks (club socks are available)

Although not mandatory, we strongly recommend all players also use the following:

  • Hockey shin pads
  • Gum shield
  • Protective gloves

NHC club kit is available to buy and includes socks, hoodies, match day shirts and waterproof tops. To place an order please use the kit order form available to download in the members download area. This will require you to register with the club. This is free and allows access to many useful resources.

What level of experience do I need to join the club?

E-mail Print PDF

We have plenty of teams at different levels and competing regularly across the region. To join NHC you just need lots of enthusiasm and a love of team sports!

We have excellent coaches within the club who operate at different levels and it is just as important to improve players' skills as it is that our club members are enjoying training and playing their hockey.

If in doubt come to training and find out for yourself - what is there to lose?

How do I join?

Come along to one of our training sessions and see whether Newcastle Hockey Club is the right club for you.

If you have been to training and you want to become a member then the next step is to fill out a club registration form. This is included in the Official Club Welcome Pack (available in our downloads section). When you have completed the form, bring it along to training and hand it to one of the committee members who will make sure you get registered as part of NHC.
