Newcastle Hockey Club

Well it was Newcastle harpers' second game and after an amazing win against Alnwick we were determined to continue our winning streak. After winning the push back, Newcastle had the better start, dominating the game from the beginning. We always had Whitley on the back foot, with amazing play by the solid defence and Pipp that set the standard for the rest of the team. We had the majority of the possession and I lost count of the amount of shots that we had on target, we just couldn't turn the shots into goals. However with 10 minutes of the first half left to be played, Newcastle were awarded a long corner fromthe right-hand side of the pitch. After some excellent, intricate passing between rachel and jeni, the ball made it into the 'D' for a goal mouth scramble until the ball was finally tapped over the line by Ellen to secure the 1-0 lead. However the excitement of the goal meant that Newcastle decided to relax and Whitley capitalised on this. After their push back and a few 2 ball transfers around the pitch, the ball somehow managed to get past the defence and smashed into the net, impossible to stop. 1-1. The whistle went shortly after and both teams went into half time believing that they could win the match.
