31/05/07 England Hockey Board statement regarding juniors playing in open adult hockey

England Hockey undertook a survey with clubs on the Single System recommendation regarding juniors playing in open adult leagues in March/April 2007. The England Hockey Board considered a detailed report on the survey findings at its meeting on 8 May 2007. Subsequently an interim statement was posted to the England Hockey website on 11 May advising that the Board’s decisions would be issued on 31 May 2007.

A copy of the Board’s decisions in relation to this matter can be downloaded from the England Hockey website by following this link: www.englandhockey.co.uk/core_files/fileDownload(679).pdf

The Board would once again like to record its thanks to all clubs who took the trouble to return the survey, which played an important role in influencing key decisions. Thanks are also extended to those individuals who had previously contributed to the survey’s development.

This information has been distributed widely by email to key contacts and the statement will also be included in the next edition of EH News which will be circulated to clubs in late June/early July.

England Hockey looks forward to continuing to work with the Hockey Family for the development of our sport.

12/05/07 Charity Cancer Tournament 2007
Following on from successful tournaments in Edinburgh in 2003, and Newcastle in 2005, Whitley Bay were this year’s hosts for the Charity Cancer Tournament 2007 held on Sat 12th May, 2007.

Seven local teams, and a touring team from Preston Lodge (Edinburgh) played 7-a-side hockey in memory of two unique girls, Sally Fraser (Maloney) and Sharon Irwin, who lost their lives during early 2005, after bravely battling cancer, and also in memory of Felicity Graham who sadly died from cancer on Tuesday, 8th May 2007. To show our appreciation and thoughts of these girls, all players were asked to wear something pink whilst they played, in memory of the three girls.

The grand total raised at the tournament on Saturday was £630.32. Thanks to everyone for their efforts, bring raffle prizes, organising teams, to Jean Hughes from Whitley Bay for getting the pitch for free again at Whitley Bay like we did 2 years ago at Westgate, and to everyone for just having a laugh, even in the rain! Compared to 2 years ago when we raised £350, this is an amazing increase and about £200 more than we had hoped for. Once again, the money was split 50/50 between St Oswald’s Hospice and MacMillan Cancer Support.

Photos from the tournament are available to view. For more information, contact Caz Makin.
